I took this photo of Mike last year when we were in New Zealand, Piper was splashing in the paddling pool on my Dad's patio overlooking the water as her Daddy took a morning kayak on the still waters below. Life seems simpler in New Zealand...more peaceful, less ridiculous. I wish I was back there.

5-8 years my darling, 5-8 years. I agree, I never realized how much simplier life was outside N.America - less rat race, more time to be home, explore countryside etc. Families here spent Sat's birdwatching not at the mall or structured activities -it's a lesson I hope stays with me forever.
You'll get there, you really will and the reward will be so amazing and one you deserve!
Well I can't blame you in light of all that's going on... but trust me, that one street isn't all of this country... there are places you'd fit in so well... I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all this right now.
It's a CrapFest.
It looks beautiful Hayley. So peaceful.
Are you ready for the debate tonight?
I am sorry, but this is a great county and your neighbors/town do not define the people that make up this country. And before you call me a republican, know that I am a democrat.
I enjoy your blog and your writing is amazing, but I just felt like I had to say something.....
two peas...
thanks for your input, whether you are a Republican or democrat has absolutley no bearing on how I feel, right now, I think a wee bit of national humility would go a long way. Lets reassess how the USA is perceived by our allies, by the rest of the world. I think we need to take stock of that, I'm not dogging anyone, I'm just stepping out of the insulated box and saying how I feel.
And if I sometimes feel homesick, at least allow me the small pleasure of romanticizing about my homeland.
It must be very hard to be so far from home. I cannot imagine.
You romanticize all you need to my sweet!
Blind devotion to one's country is not patriotism. Dissent is the ultimate form of patriotism, and those who want to stamp out dissent are unpatriotic. There are things about our country that are great, but there are also things that desperately need improvement and change, and our leadership doesn't seem interested in doing it.
And I totally agree w/spcial family that living outside the US is often simpler than living here. I've lived in another country before, and sometimes long for the simple, family-oriented, less-consumer-oriented life it offered.
New Zealand sounds amazing...I'd LOVE to go there someday!!
Romanticize away, my friend!!
HUGS to you!!
Can I come too?
It looks lovely! Can we go with you?! If McCain wins, we'll be wishing we could relocate!
