Teabagger Alert
We don't just think you are buddy, we KNOW you are!
A few days ago there were copycat 'Boston Tea Parties' thrown around the country by angry Republicans...c'mon people, know your history...The Boston Tea Party was about taxation without representation...uhem, we have representation...it just happens that it isn't the kind you want, but the majority won so we get to live within the laws of this administration...this DEMOCRATIC administration in this DEMOCRATIC Nation. No faux-populist threat of revolution will change that! I find this really really really UNPATRIOTIC! Are you freaking kidding me? Are ALL these people protesting because they are upset that the wealthiest of wealthy in this country will have a 3% tax increase? Do they even realize that not one single American will have to pay higher taxes until 2011, and even then, it will be less than the top 5% of the population, ? Wow, I never knew Millionaires had such a big fan club! I can guarantee you that 99% of the protesters would not be adversely affected by the Obama tax modifications, in fact they will benefit...more fool them I guess.
Whether or not you are Republican, Democrat or Independent, common sense has to be applied here. Are these people suggesting NO taxes? That's anarchy! Surely they don't want that. I tell you what, why don't we round up a dozen of these folks in every city and town, trot them over to the local VA hospital and let them break the news to the brave men and women who served this nation that they don't support them...because that's what happens to our tax dollars...it pays to support our Veterans, to keep our roads and bridges safe, to educate all our children, to provide health care to those who cannot afford it and so on and so on and so on.
AND...if one more person calls this administration FASCIST, I'd at least like them to back it up with an educated analysis of fascism...I'm sure a great percentage have never turned the pages of a History book and hence have no understanding of this at all.
So I ask myself, why is the RIGHT so bent out of shape on this? Do they NOT support caring for our Veterans, the sick, elderly, the poor?
Go figure.

Fabulous post! Like I've said I will NEVER understand how anyone can object to the rich paying more tax, to familes getting support, to medical coverage being equal and not based on your wealth...

Here Churches believe that the government has a responsibility to all people - to ensure that there is good quality shelter, to ensure families can afford food, to ensure no one dies because they can't afford health care. As a Christian I know Jesus instructed people to care for people. Surely he meant the government and the wealthy too?

The odd thing is when I was reading an article recently and there were several Republican supporters interviewed - many of them were unemployed, living off family handouts, sending their kids to free EI programs, getting state help and yet those same people were opposed to socialism. Um hello? Where would you be with no help? What if you don't have parents who could help? Would your child deserve to sleep on the streets? Seriously.

I vote based on what is the best for the majority. I hope I'm never above the $200,000 threashold for higher taxes (I hope not because I'd rather work less hours and be home with my family then work more hours to buy more) but when I pay my taxes I'm pleased to know that no child will die of cancer because of the cost of treatment, no child will have a speech delay because the parents can't affort therapy, no woman will have to think about whether she can afford a rape kit to be performed after she is attacked. Yes there are times our welfare programs are abused and people try to use that to justify not having the programs in place but really, why does no one care about the millionaire who uses every loop hole he can not to pay tax? That makes me far more concerned! When I did a post on this in the old old blog (the big one)pre-Obama someone said to me "as a Christian people should care for people not Governments" (loads said this actually) well firstly are Governments not made up of people and secondly, one of the people who said this was a woman who with her husband had a huge house and a cottage and a timshare. Well if your faith is soooo important and you believe Jesus instructed people to care for people, why don't you sell your cottage & timeshare in FL to care for people? Without governement programs in place that really is the only alternative and I don't see people lining up to do this!

I watched a fascinating program about a US man (Professor I think) who lived like Jesus for a year. He was a Repub and spent the year researching how would Jesus vote. Well guess what? He voted Dem.

I'm so with you on this one....

So what the fair tax wants to do is tax everyone equally....

What people don't get is that the most people under the fair tax will pay MORE taxes. The rich will pay less.

These people at the tea parties are thinking that they will pay less taxes. That is so not the case.

I get protesting over spending. I think our bailouts are over the top. But I also think we have to fix what the Bush Administration did wrong.
