M R I

The best letters so far!!! Today is a very exciting day for our little family. We got news of more 'letters' but not ones we were expecting. We got the results from the MRI that we had requested and it looks like we are not dealing with the worst case scenario at all! Initially we had so little to go on that several of the tip top doctors were extremely concerned about the possibility of an occipital meningecele, which is a neural tube defect. The basis of the concern was that Paisley would be at risk for complications if she did not get appropriate medical intervention (MRI, MRV, surgery) asap. We have been extremely concerned for her welfare alongside the medical professionals who just want her home asap so that she can be cared for in a non-institutionalized setting. Now, we don't have the films, or the full report, but from what the Chinese doctors say, they think it is more likely a lipoma, which DOES NOT involve spinal fluid or grey matter....woohoo! Of course, as soon as sweetpea is home we will have an MRI and MRV done here to make absolutely sure that this is true...but from first looks it is GOOD NEWS!

This is no small feat in itself, it is rare that China will approve medical tests unless there is significant reason. We are so lucky that the Director of the Orphanage was willing to honor our request. We will have to send a Thank You card to him for taking the time to take Paisley to the hospital and requesting for a second time(his first request was denied). We offered to pay for the procedure which I think helped, but without his perseverance we would have spent the next 2-3 months worrying more than we needed to.
